NEW DELHI: India’s top wealth creators are a mix of old and new companies, from RIL to Kotak Bank, unlike in the US, where newer ones generated most wealth. A study showed that just 2% of 5,000 companies outperformed the sensex over 25 years, and indicated that growth stocks, rather than value, create wealth over long run. Here’s a look.

PSUs WERE INSIGNIFICANT IN LONG TERM WEALTH CREATION
PSUs share in wealth creations fell from 51% in 2000-05 to just 3% in 2015-20. Of the 7 PSU in the top 100 wealth creators, most enjoy virtual monopoly.
While the most profitable companies have all been MNCs like HUL, Nestle India and Colgate Palmolive, the best dividened paying companies are all domestic ones like ITC, Infosys and Hindustan Zinc.
