High supply chain and logistics cost make Indian products less competitive in the global market. The current supply chain and logistics costs in India account for around 14% of the country’s GDP compared to the global average of approximately 8%.
Modi on August 15 had announced that the total size of the Gati Shakti project will be Rs 100 lakh crore for developing holistic infrastructure. The aim of the project will be on improving efficiency by optimising the necessary infrastructure, which will help reduce the logistics cost. While the project will be spearheaded by the logistics division in the commerce ministry, there will be an empowered group of secretaries headed by Cabinet secretary to see the implementation of this major initiative.
