Ikea to shut its purchase office in Delhi-NCR - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Swedish furniture retailer Ikea is shutting down its purchasing office in the Delhi NCR region, which has been operational for decades.
The move, which has left several employees disgruntled, comes close on the heels of the retailer opening one of its largest stores in Bengaluru.
Ikea is setting up its new purchasing office in the premises of the Bengaluru store and has communicated to its employees that they can either relocate or look at opportunities outside the organisation, said an employee on the condition of anonymity.
When contacted, an Ikea spokesperson told TOI that the process of relocation will start now and will be completed at the end of April 2023. Employees will have 10 months of transition time.
“We are now entering the fifth decade and want to continue setting ourselves up for long-term and sustainable success by consolidating into one hub in Bangalore, with majority of the Ikea units in India,” the spokesperson said.
The company said if employees choose not to move to Bengaluru, it will help them find job opportunities within Ikea or will support them with external job coaching.
