Telangana logs 26% IT export growth to hit Rs 1.83 lakh crore in FY22, generates one-third of new IT jobs created in India | India Business News - Times of India

HYDERABAD: Setting a blistering pace in Information Technology (IT) sector growth in the face of Covid-19 headwinds, India’s youngest state of Telangana has logged a 26% growth in IT exports for 2021-22 at over Rs 1.83 lakh crore. It also recorded 1,49,506 new jobs created during the fiscal, taking the total employment in the sector to over 7.78 lakh, a jump of 24%.
With this, Telangana alone added one third of the 4.5 lakh new jobs created in the country in FY22 as per Nasscom’s estimates.
The state also outpaced by far the country’s IT exports growth of a little over 17% for FY22.
In 2020-21, the state had logged IT exports of Rs 1,45, 522 crore and created 46,489 jobs to take the total number of IT jobs to 6,28,615.
Terming Telangana’s IT sector growth for FY22 as nothing short of stellar, IT minister KT Rama Rao said the astounding number of new jobs created and exports growth clocked has surpassed all expectations.
“When we started as a newborn state of Telangana in 2014, our IT exports were Rs 57,258 crore. Since the formation of the new state of Telangana, we have been able to achieve a CAGR of 15.67% from Rs 57,258 crore to Rs 1,83,569 crore,” he said.
“When the state was formed, there were 3,23,396 people working in the IT/ ITeS sector. Today, the total number of employees in the IT sector is 7,78,121. In net, we have added 4,54,725 new IT/ ITeS jobs over the last eight years,” he added.
