NEW DELHI: Mahindra Scorpio got a contemporary makeover, with the homegrown auto major launching ‘Scorpio-N’, the new-gen version of the model that first hit the roads in June 2002. Scorpio changed fortunes of the then-fledgling automotive business of Mahindra & Mahindra.
The company has been riding high on success of XUV7OO and Thar and hopes that the new version of the Scorpio will help it make further inroads into the metro and urban markets. It has decoded to retain the previous-generation model (to be called Scorpio Classic) mainly for the rural and semi-urban markets.

The Scorpio-N will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. The ex-showroom prices of the model vary between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 19 lakh for petrol versions and between Rs 12.5 lakh and Rs 19.5 lakh for diesel variants.
Rajesh Jejurikar, ED of auto & farm Sectors at M&M, said the company is confident of consolidating its position in the premium SUV market with Scorpio-N as it works towards creating additional production capacities to cut down long queues for bookings of other models. The Scorpio-N will compete with models such as Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, Hyundai Alcazar and its own sibling XUV7OO.
M&M has been hamstrung by supply side shortages as the global semiconductor crunch, recent lockdowns in China and the Ukraine crisis has impacted supplies of critical parts. Jejurikar said the company is trying to work through the shortages, even as the situation on the front of semiconductors has been improving.
