NEW DELHI: The US has recommended that international travellers heading there should be “up to date” with their Covid vaccinations while doing away with the requirement of pre-departure testing for flights leaving to the country starting Sunday (June 12) at 12.01 EDT (9.31 pm IST). The requirement of showing proof of Covid-19 for noncitizens who are nonimmigrants is still in effect, says the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Airlines have begun reflecting this change. For instance, Air Canada website says: “Starting June 12, customers no longer need to show proof of a pre-departure Covid-19 test result for air travel to the US from Canada. There are no other changes to requirements, including the requirement to be fully vaccinated.”
The CDC website says: “On June 10, 2022, the CDC rescinded the order titled ‘requirement for negative pre-departure Covid-19 test result or documentation of recovery from Covid-19 for all airline or other aircraft passengers arriving in the US from any foreign country. This rescission takes effect for flights departing to the United States from a foreign country at or after 12:01am ET (4:01am GMT) on June 12, 2022.”
Accordingly, starting Sunday CDC will no longer require air passengers traveling from a foreign country to the US to show a negative Covid-19 viral test or documentation of recovery from Covid-19 before they board their flight. The CDC has additionally recommended people wear masks in indoor public transport.
