Former CEA & ISB Prof Krishnamurthy Subramanian appointed ED for India at IMF - Times of India

HYDERABAD: Less than a year after former Chief Economic Advisor Dr Krishnamurthy Subramanian returned to academia at the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad, he has now been appointed as Executive Director (India) at the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
According to an official order issued on Thursday, Subramanian will take over as ED (India) at IMF with effect from November 1, 2022, after the Indian government decided to curtail the tenure of eminent economist Surjit S Bhalla as ED (India), IMF.
β€œThe Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Dr Krishnamurthy Subramanian, Professor (Finance), Indian School of Business and former Chief Economic Advisor to the post of Executive Director (India) at the IMF w.e.f November 1, 2022 for a period of three years or until further orders, whichever is earlier by curtailing the tenure of Dr Surjit S Bhalla as ED (India) IMF up to October 31, 2022,” the order stated.
Dr Subramanian was the youngest CEA to the government of India when he was appointed in 2018 and served in the position till October 2021 when he decided to make a comeback to his teaching career.
He takes over at IMF from Bhalla, who was appointed ED (India) at the international body in October 2019 after former RBI deputy governor Subir Gokarn, who was ED (India) at IMF then, died in the US in July end after a brief illness.
