NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cleared the appointment of Amitabh Kant as India’s sherpa for G20, the group representing the world’s largest economies.
Kant, a retired IAS officer, recently stepped down as Niti Aayog CEO and will be the PM’s envoy and key policy interlocutor at the forum.
His appointment comes ahead of a crucial meeting in Indonesia next week to prepare the ground work for the leaders’ summit later in the year.
He will be instrumental in setting the agenda for India’s presidency next year.
Kant will take over from union minister Piyush Goyal, who was India’s sherpa.
