BENGALURU: Wipro has extended work from home for its employees till Sunday, April 4, next year. Wipro told TOI on Monday that this was done keeping the safety and wellbeing of employees in mind. “As of now, nearly 98% of our employees are working from home,” it said. Wipro has 1.8 lakh employees.
Most Indian companies are yet to come out with a formal announcement on WFH extensions. Infosys recently said its employees will return to office “in a sustainable way” in the coming months. Infosys said 99% of its workforce continues to work from home.
Several tech MNCs have announced extensions. Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently wrote to employees that they can continue to work from home till September next year. Facebook and NetApp have extended work from home till July 2021. Apple also does not expect most employees to return to office till July.
Pichai’s mail said: “Our goal is to give Googlers everywhere the option to return as soon as local conditions allow, and it’s encouraging to see that in some parts of Apac and EMEA, Googlers are already returning to the office. Other regions are not as far along, so to help these Googlers deal with the uncertainty still ahead, we’ll be extending our voluntary work-from-home option to September 1.”
