This budget is for 1% of total population, Rahul Gandhi slams Centre - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday slammed the Centre for the Union Budget 2021 stating that the budget is for only 1 per cent of the population.
Speaking at a media briefing, he said: "I had expected from the budget that Govt will provide support to 99% of India's population. But this Budget is that of the 1% population."
He also accussed the government of snatching money away from the hands of the people in small & medium industries, workers, farmers and defence forces and placing it in the hands of 5-10 people.
The former Congress president emphasised that India need to put money in the hands of the people in order to restart its economy. He said that this is possible only through increased consumption and not from the supply side.
Taking a jibe at the Centre's allocation to defence sector in budget 2021, Rahul Gandhi said that the government has sent a message to China that we won't raise defence expenditure.
"China enters into India & grabs our land. What message do you give them? That we won't increase our defence expenditure. You raised it by Rs 3,000-4,000 crore. What message did you give? That you can enter India & do whatever you want, we won't support our defence forces," he noted.
On farm laws, he questioned the government on why Delhi was being turned into a fortress and urged te=hem to resolve the issue soon.
"PM saying that offer is still on table to postpone laws for 2 yrs. What does it mean? Either you believe that you need to get rid of the laws or you don't. I feel this issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible & govt needs to listen as farmers aren't going away," he added.
