Sensex jumps 437 points to close at 46,444; Nifty settles above 13,600 - Times of India

NEW DELHI: Domestic equity markets finished higher for the second straight session on Wednesday with the benchmark BSE sensex rising over 400 points, led by gains in realty, IT and bank stocks.
The 30-share BSE index rose 437 points or 0.95 per cent to close at 46,444; while the broader NSE Nifty settled 135 points or 1 per cent higher at 13,601.
Hindustan Unilever, Infosys, M&M, IndusInd Bank, ITC, SBI and Asian Paints were the top gainers in the sensex pack rising as much as 2.75 per cent. Twenty-seven out of 30 stocks finished in green.
While Titan, Power Grid and NTPC were the only losers falling up to 0.89 per cent.
On the NSE platform, all sub-indices finished in green with NSE Realty, Media, IT and PSU Bank gaining up to 3.94 per cent.
“In a market which saw some kind of correction, IT and pharma stocks are coming back in focus. IT is doing well on the (back of) strong deal wins,” Siddhartha Khemka, head of retail research at Motilal Oswal Securities told news agency Reuters.
“In a short week, we have seen some high volatility due to negative global cues and we could still see some wild swings,” he added.
Meanwhile, foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) were net buyers in the capital market as they purchased shares worth Rs 1,153 crore on a net basis on Tuesday, according to provisional exchange data.
