New income tax e-filing portal: Users face issues, Nirmala Sitharaman asks Infosys, Nilekani ‘not to let down taxpayers’ | India Business News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday urged IT major Infosys and its co-founder Nandan Nilekani to ensure that the new income tax e-filing portal doesn’t “let down taxpayers in the quality of service being provided.”
The finance minister took to Twitter — after some users complained of facing glitches — and wrote: “The much awaited e-filing portal 2.0 was launched last night 20:45 hrs. I see in my TL (timeline) grievances and glitches. Hope Infosys and Nandan Nilekani will not let down our taxpayers in the quality of service being provided. Ease in compliance for the taxpayer should be our priority,”
“Can’t login to New Income Tax Site. Issue with site or issue at my end?” a user asked in a tweet.

Responding to the finance minister’s plea, Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani tweeted saying that the IT major has observed some technical issues and is working to resolve them.
He further said that Infosys regrets these initial glitches and expects the system to stabilise during the week.

“Well we are just having a look on the new portal but it was not expected like what you have given to us. It is not up to the mark,” another one wrote.
Infosys has developed the new portal. The software major also manages the IT infrastructure of GSTN, the company that processes GST returns. The company had earlier faced flak for technical glitches in the GSTN portal.
The new tax e-filing portal was launched on Monday and since then many users complained that they weren’t able to login.
In 2019, the IT major was awarded a contract to develop the next-generation tax filing system to reduce processing time for returns from 63 days to one day and expedite refunds.
Infosys is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
With a host of new features, the new tax filing portal seeks to offer enhanced and intuitive user experience. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which frames policies for the tax department, had earler mentioned that a mobile app will be activated on June 18.
