MG to fix software in 14k Hector SUVs, after CoP failure – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Morris Garages India will carry out reflashing or remapping of a software in around 14,000 DCT BS6 variant of Hectors after a government-owned testing agency found that samples of this model failed in the conformity of production (CoP) tests.
Sources said the International Centre for Automotive Technology (iCAT) at Manesar in Haryana conducted tests on some of the samples picked up from the company’s factory for testing. They added the vehicles did not clear the CoP tests vis-à-vis the type approval for the engine for this variant. Sources said the tests found variations in HydroCarbon and NOx emission.
The testing agency had referred the matter to the road transport ministry. “It was found that there is some problem with the software. This problem can be fixed,” said a source.
The CoP is a means of evidencing the ability to produce a series of products that exactly match the specification, performance and other requirements outlined in the type approval documentation.
The company in India has so far sold over 60,000 MG Hectors since launch. These comprise of BS4 and BS6 versions. “During latest test, it was found that DCT BS6 had some variations in HC – NOx value. We investigated and found that there was some problem with a particular software and we found the solution which has been verified by the authority,” said an MGI spokesperson.
The company said it expects to get the formal approval of the solution from the concerned authority shortly. “We would be informing the customers (approximately 14,000) and will reflash the updated software. We plan to complete the reflashing by December 2021, Covid permitting,” the spokesperson said.
The software will be reflashed whenever customers bring the car to the dealer.
